Made in the gaps, spent in the fibrils. A fibre in cross section at full pixel resolution. ATP diffuses, is made in the mitochondria and spent in the fibrils when the fibre works, with phosphocreatine as the buffer. The ink is ATP: at work the fibrils pale, and the halos round the mitochondria keep them going.
