A price spreadsheet becomes a page
Kvist & Ramme frames pictures. Its prices are kept in one Excel file, so a customer who wants a price has to call, and the owner types the numbers in and reads the answer back. Here that file becomes the page customers price their own frame on, and the owner still sets every price in Excel.
What the customer sees
Choose a size, a profile and the glass. The price is the spreadsheet’s own answer, worked out by its own formulas in the browser. Turn on the cells to see which formula gave each line.
The file the owner keeps
Blue cells are what the customer chooses, violet cells are formulas. Download the file, change a price in Excel or Numbers, and drop it back here: the page above runs on your copy.
The file is read in this page and is not sent to a server.
From the file to the page
A customer calls the workshop for a price. The owner types the size, the profile and the glass into the spreadsheet and reads the answer back. Every price waits until the owner can come to the phone.
The customer chooses the size, the profile and the glass on the page and sees the spreadsheet’s own price. The owner changes a price in Excel, and the page reads the new file.
Cells reads the owner’s file as it is: every sheet, formula, number format and lookup table. The owner types none of it in a second time.
Every value Cells works out is held against the value Excel saved in the file. The page goes live when they all agree.
The page asks only for what the customer chooses. Every price on it comes from the spreadsheet’s own formulas.
The owner keeps working in Excel. A new file with new prices updates the page, without a developer.
Any price, quote or rule that is kept in a spreadsheet can become a page this way: a quote for a kitchen, a shipping price, a membership fee, a rota. Send me the file, and you see your own numbers on a page before anything is built.
Try Cells on your own spreadsheet first, on the Software page.
